Competitor Airlines Not Doing Anything - kendallhart808 - 03-28-2020 So I recently tried to run several games, with about twenty airlines from across the United States, starting in 2000. The first time, I activated startdata. Delta and Southwest (which have start data) built their networks but their passenger numbers didn't grow after that. All of the other airlines either didn't grow, or activated routes with no fill on it and grew incredibly slowly. Without startdata, none of the airlines established more than 2 routes within 2 years and had no fill on their routes. I ran a route and it worked just fine, but the competitor airlines still didn't work. Even when I bought their stock to give them more money, they didn't begin routes. I'm just wondering if something is up with the AI, since I ran the same game on 2.12, and the airlines activated routes from the beginning. RE: Competitor Airlines Not Doing Anything - Tjoeker - 03-28-2020 The AI was pretty dumb in previous versions. It often opened and closed the same routes over and over again. This took a lot of recources thanks to the new filling degree calculation needing to be calculated again every other day. The AI needs to be smarter and not close and reopen routes so often. Writing a decent AI takes time and I had other priorities at the time. So I just slew their reaction time. Which fixed the performance issue mentioned above + it kept their routes open for longer. Of course this makes AI seem passive, and the AI still remains dumb. In TAP NG I will completely rewrite how AI works and work out vastly different strategies for different types of airlines. But more on that later. ![]() For now all I can say is I'm sorry AI is this dumb. |
