Global Aviation Crisis in progress!!! - kwilson92 - 05-01-2020 As we know, this global crisis has caused massive issues across aviation. My local airport is the UK's 3rd busiest airport but currently has 10 flights a day and is closed to pax aircraft at 15.35 daily. But Ryanair announced this today: https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-ryanair-to-slash-up-to-3-000-jobs-over-covid-19-crisis-11981526 IAG said this at the beginning of the week: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52462660 But on the plus side, Wizz Air UK resumes flights from Luton today https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/travel/travel-news/wizz-air-london-luton-flights-resume-a4429176.html food for thought: what happens to Norweigan?!?!?!?!? RE: Global Aviation Crisis in progress!!! - eagleTM - 05-01-2020 I don't think Norwegian will be existing for long as they have been in trouble financially long before the pandemic and are now just at the end of the line for anyone to consider saving them. Norwegian has lost itself in expansions which were ridiculous. Building up subsidiaries in several different countries, flying in South and North America while still not having sound plans for Europe. Genius. In general I hope this will clear up industries (not just aviation) from unncessary participants which do not contribute to anything. RE: Global Aviation Crisis in progress!!! - kwilson92 - 05-04-2020 I think the question is, should Norwegian have accepted BA's final offer to buy it?? RE: Global Aviation Crisis in progress!!! - MDubz - 05-05-2020 Wow, we're both from near Manchester, It's definitely worrying for everyone looking for a career in aviation, however, Reuters has speculated that airlines will most likely begin recruiting pilots in 2-3 year due to a retiring workforce. Undoubtedly, the weaker players in aviation, like Norwegian / Virgin Australia / Compass are going to either face administration, or just barely survive. Interesting too, which nations are providing aid for the struggling Industry (Don't want to get political, but Richard Branson could've maybe helped a bit more, a bit earlier.) good to hear that you've got something to look forward to though. --Best Of luck to you Matt RE: Global Aviation Crisis in progress!!! - kwilson92 - 05-05-2020 (05-05-2020, 07:51 PM)MDubz Wrote: Wow, we're both from near Manchester, It's definitely worrying for everyone looking for a career in aviation, however, Reuters has speculated that airlines will most likely begin recruiting pilots in 2-3 year due to a retiring workforce. I can see Manchester Airport out my bedroom window lol.
