As the title suggests, I was wondering if airliner locations are tracked.

For example if a plane is scheduled to fly ATL - JFK in the morning and SFO - LAX in the afternoon, does the plane just "teleport" to the route origin or is there a simulated journey to the route origin.

I know that you will need to leave a gap between your arrival at JFK and departure at SFO so that the plane can fly between these airports.

I'm not sure if the costs of this flight are calculated though.
